Some of people argue
that using online course is a good solution to make distance learning. Godwin-Jones
(2003) claims that language instruction enable delivered by using internet and
it will have less cost, thus educational institutions have opportunities to
deliver course online. To prove this claim, some of research was held in a lot
of universities. The researchers have found that most of student agree and
satisfy online courses in language learning.
In the same topic, Abdullah Yordem tried to do more
research about online course. The goal of his study is to investigate about students’
arguments of online course used in English teaching. Many arguments and
perspectives appeared unpredictably in finding. It showed the opposite result
of previous study about using online course. The students preferred to use
traditional method in teaching English as a foreign language. Most of the
student argued that they cannot understand well without class environment even
only few students felt more comfort with online course.
This study is very interesting because the finding is
opposite to the previous. If we conduct this research in Indonesia, it will be
more interesting. Remember that computer and good internet connection only
served in a few regions of Indonesia, for instance: Jakarta. While the others region
have limited facilities. Based on that problem, we can investigate more and compare
it with the previous study. We will know the perceptions of Indonesian student
about online course in English teaching. Is the result will be same or quite
different? What is the biggest obstacle doing online course in Indonesia?
